Record Breaking Registrations for CONEXPO-CON/AGG -  Rock to Road

Las Vegas, Nev. – More than 38,000 individuals registered for CONEXPO-CON/AGG last week (January 10-17) as the early-bird deadline came to a close on Friday, Jan. 17, representing a record-breaking total of registrations for a single week. The show is slated for March 10-14 in Las Vegas.

“We’re thrilled to see this kind of energy and enthusiasm with last week’s record-breaking attendee registrations,” said AEM vice president of exhibitions Dana Wuesthoff. “We’re less than 50 days from the show, and overall our registrations are pacing well ahead of previous shows, indicating a continued sense of optimism from contractors as they look for new products and innovations to help them succeed in the years ahead.”

Momentum continues to build for the 2020 show, as nearly 2,500 exhibitors are set to unveil more than 500 new products and showcase innovations for asphalt, aggregates, concrete, earthmoving, lifting, mining, utilities and more, covering more than 2.6 million net square feet of exhibition space. In addition, more than 50 show-related press conferences have been scheduled and over 150 industry-driven education sessions will highlight equipment end user trends, technologies and best practices.

Attendees can still save more than 20 per cent off  . . .

United Contractors - 50th Anniversary Tribute Video (6:34) Video by - United Contractors (UCON)

Broad Shoulders to Support an Industry -  United Contractors Magazine

At fifty years young, UCON reflects the values and roots that made us who we are. Over many years the Board and leaders have taken risk, invested forward, and looked to the future—in an industry often ruled by tradition and sometimes status quo. And after these decades, UCON has been rewarded.

UCON has been gifted the trust of its members. The respect of the industry. Being a partner to our union partners. The recognition of legislators. The reputation of a solid, straightforward get-it-done leader.

This is the cumulative impact of hundreds of leaders and staff members always pushing forward. To have changed our name three times (identity crisis?), change our membership profile twice (open the doors and expand the tent), stay all-union despite criticism (you have to stand for something real) and also merge with a peer organization—these are just some examples of how forward-thinking the Board of Directors have been over the years. And we are doing so again.

Last month UCON opened a new office in Anaheim California. After several decades of our members working not only in Northern California, but all across the state (and western U.S.) we are following them to take care of their interests. This new office and expanded scope represent

Propeller's 3D Site Maps Have Become the Bridge Betwenn Orica and Their Customers(3:39) Video by - Propeller Aero

Easy-to-Understand Visuals Become the Bridge Between Blasting Contractor and Quarry Propeller Blog

We recently visited Orica, a blasting systems and commercial explosives service provider, to ask them how Propeller’s impacted their day to day.

As it turns out, they’re not the only ones benefiting from up-to-date worksite data. Propeller’s 3D site maps have become the bridge between Orica and their customers—helping them maintain total transparency, 100% of the time.

This is the story of their transformation.

The Challenge

Because Orica’s daily tasks are inherently dangerous, they’re always searching for powerful new tools that reduce opportunity for error. This openness to digitization has helped keep their team of over 11,500 employees safe and vigilant.

Union Bridge Plant, a massive quarry producing 70,000 tons of inventory each week, is one of Orica’s more forward-thinking customers.  Lehigh Hanson, a Heidelberg Cement Group subsidiary, owns and operates Union Bridge, and they’ve come to recognize that when you’re producing 10,000 tons a day, any micro-improvements to efficiency quickly add up into macro-level savings.

Everyone was starved for more data—data that could create a safer environment for Orica, and data that could help Lehigh Hanson keep track . . .

2020 National Farm Machinery Show - Trimble GFX-350 (3:08) Video by - Farms.com Agriculture Videos

State of the Industry: Adoption of Precision Ag Grows as Farm Sizes Grow - Trimble Agriculture Blog

Since the first auto-steer tractor was introduced in the 1990s, precision agriculture has only gained traction among farmers for its cost and time savings benefits — and it’s a trend that’s not likely to slow down anytime soon.

Farms are generally growing in size across the globe. In the U.S., the percent of cropland on farms with at least 2,000 acres was more than double the percent in 1987, from 15% to 36%, according to a 2018 USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) report. And both the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources and the European Environment Agency are reporting a trend of increasing farm sizes while the number of farms decreases, on both continents.

The trend for larger farms is thanks in part to precision technology. The ERS report says that technologies like GPS guidance systems, yield, and soil mapping, and variable-rate technology (VRT) “appear to have spurred further increases in farm size,” as they allow farmers to manage more land.

And as farms continue to grow, so will their use of precision ag. A 2016 ERS report found that larger farms are more likely to adopt these technologies, with some of the highest adoption rates being on farms with  . . .
